A Quick Q & A
If you’re not familiar with Mastercard® Check Cards yet, you might have a few questions.
Q: What’s the difference between my Mastercard Check Card and my credit card?
A: Your Mastercard® Check Card withdraws money from your checking account to pay for purchases, just like writing a paper check. Your credit card advances payment from your line of credit (credit card) account.
Q: Can I use my Mastercard® Check Card like a credit card?
A: It’s more like a check than a credit card. When you use your Mastercard® Check Card in instances where you’d usually use a credit card, like making airline or hotel reservations, the merchant puts a hold on the funds in your checking account. That can add up to a big chunk of money that’s not available in your checking account when you need it. So use your Mastercard® Check Card for things you’d usually write a check for, and record the transaction right away.
Q: How do I use my Mastercard® Check Card for purchases?
A: When you’re at the register, simply hand the card to the cashier instead of a paper check. Or, at point-of-sale terminals, look for the Mastercard® logo, select the "credit" payment option, and swipe your card.
Q: How will I know how much money I have in my checking account?
A: Enter each check card transaction into your checkbook register, just as you would a paper check or ATM transaction. Keep your receipts for balancing. Your check card transactions will show up on your monthly statement, along with your other account transactions. Or, if you want to know sooner, use the FNB Info-Line telephone account access 269-278-8300 or FNB Internet banking solution.
Q: What if I overdraw my account?
A: Check card transactions will be authorized as long as the funds are available in your checking account at the time of purchase. If your account balance is exceeded, the transaction won’t be authorized.
Q: What if my card is lost or stolen?
A: Call this toll-free number immediately to report a lost or stolen card: 1-800-528-2273. Your liability is usually limited to the first $50 of loss if your card is used without your authorization and you notify us within two business days.
